🌊We are number one! (In COVID death rates)

www.hightide.harbourtimes.com

Good morning,

I put some dark humour in today’s Tide because I like it. Otherwise, it has been a normal day.

Yassin, our new social media guy, says I need to drum up more ‘engagement’ from our audience. Please be engaged by this introduction. Engagement could mean sharing this issue of Tide. Or liking our social media.

He briefly threatened to cut everyone who doesn’t engage. I can only hope ‘cut’ was not literal.

How to stay at home

The government gave updated guidelines on home quarantining yesterday. Here’s the low-down

  • You can only home quarantine if you are double vaxxed

  • You have to quarantine a minimum of 6 to 7 days (the day you test positive is day 1)

  • You have to do a RAT test on day 6 & 7

  • If you are negative two days in a row, you can go out on the 2nd day
(e.g. if you test on day 6 and 7 and are negative on both days, you can go out on day 7)

  • If you are still positive, then continue doing tests until you are negative two days in a row

You know why you should support High Tide and get your friends to read us as well? Because the Press Release is incomprehensibly verbose (you try reading it). High Tide is not. That’s the whole point.

COVID in HK

If you don’t follow him already, Aaron ‘Tripperhead’ is probably the quickest English source for COVID news on twitter. Him alongside Dr. Chuang’s FB fanpage - everything you could possibly need.

That's the kind of "fill the empty shelves with something" I can get onboard with. #Indomie4Lyf

Apparently there are like 5 Aarons, but I am not clued up on Aaron lore.

No photo description available.

Some pics that I stole off Facebook groups I’m in. It seems each supermarket has their own shelf of literally just one brand of noodles.

May be an image of food

I think this is Discovery Bay but I can’t prove it and have no intention of. Please don’t report this complete apathy to finding the truth to the HKJA, I’ll lose my membership. Maybe.

  • Hong Kong #1 for COVID deaths in the developed world

As we pass the 2000 death mark, Hong Kong’s death rate is now higher than most developed countries. On Thursday, HK’s seven-day rolling average was 17.8 deaths per 1 million people - World #1. The US’ Omicron wave peaked at 9 deaths per 1 million.

Bit of dark humour, but obviously stay safe. Look after your young and your old.

  • CALM DOWN WE’LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU’RE GETTING TESTED

CS John Lee’s blog yesterday had a meaningful message about universal testing:

  • The government will let everybody know with plenty of time, so that everyone has time to prepare for it

  • The government isn’t going to drop the plans but are doing it' ‘according to Hong Kong’s actual circumstances’

He also told people to not listen to the media because we’re full of rumours (and memes) and to get official information from the gov instead.

Again: good luck understanding this:

It’s understandable but also just really not
