Marco Fu - World 1st Runner Up

The Snooker Hong Kong Masters concluded yesterday with local player Marco Fu getting 2nd place.

Fu had won the semi-finals against four time world champion John Higgins on Saturday. Originally stuck behind the Scotsman for most of the game, Fu scored a ridiculous comeback that set him 6-5 to a standing ovation.

However, Fu could not repeat the (what AFP called) “fairy tale ending” that he played on Saturday, losing against seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Fu is currently ranked 100th best in the world, down from 5th in 2017 after suffering a serious eye infection followed by a multi-year hiatus due to COVID.

In a press release, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung said “staying calm, focused and determined throughout the competitions, his performance demonstrates Hong Kong spirit and power with outstanding techniques. [
] We and all Hong Kong people are thrilled and truly proud of him. We wish him success in the game of snooker in future."

50% of parents don’t want kid vax; most people don’t want 4th vax

A new study conducted by the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Hong Kong found that around half (47%) of all surveyed parents do not want to vaccinate their children at risk of side effects. At the same time, only 6% of surveyed individuals said they had gotten the 4th shot, with the rest saying 3 shots is enough. A total of 500 were surveyed.

Po Leung Kuk to set up independent review committee

The PLK, unfortunately the centre of Hong Kong’s newest child abuse case, is setting up an independent review committee to follow up on latest allegations,

The committee is chaired by Melissa Kaye Pang, former president of the Law Society and will include a multi-disciplinary board of experts from child education, social welfare, criminal psychology, medicine and more.

This follows after a 28-year-old employee was arrested at one of their centres last week on suspicion of toddler abuse and neglect, and after a 33-year-old employee was arrested last month on similar child mistreatment charges.
