🌊The Fringe is NOT closing down (stop sharing that damn post)

Good morning,

In lieu of an intro that’s related to anything, show recommendations!

I finished Netflix’s adaption of Sandman not realizing it’s written by Neil Gaiman, and when I realized that it only got better.

Here’s a vid where he sarcastically goes through every shot of the intro.

Did you know that the actor for the Corinthian literally had mouth for eyes? Yeah useful that.

Hong Kong Fringe Club is NOT closing

When I saw the widespread posts that the HK Fringe Club was closing, I was shocked. I used to volunteer there backstage, and helped with the music education department.

But it was odd - I didn’t get any press releases, and neither their site nor their social media made any references to a closure.

It turns out they’re not closing. The post was shared accidentally (leaked???) and refers to a private party for the bosses Benny and Cat (lovely people, will miss them dearly) who are retiring.

We dig into it in our new article - the Fringe Club has been asked for additional clarification.

  • New deaths: 10

  • Total deaths: 9,620

  • Compulsory Testing locations: 58

Want quarantine exemptions? Become a banker!

The government is mulling over official exemptions for attendants of the massive closed-door investment summit in November.

Without a clear roadmap out of COVID restrictions, there’s no saying if normal travelers will still need to quarantine by then, but the 100 odd attendants, allegedly privately invited by the head of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, probably won’t like to sit in a hotel for days on end.

Even though quarantine has also been reduced from 7 to 3 days, some of the banks have already demanded quarantine-free travel as a per-requisite for attendance.

Raymond Siu: (COVID) Positive Role Model

Police Chief Raymond Siu has caught COVID.

He’s ok and staying home. Nothing more to say really. Moving on.

HA cuts non-essential services

The Hospital Authority is cutting down on non-essential services due to rising COVID numbers.

ā€œThe public hospitals have to pay a high price now to treat these patients. It is done at the expense of other servicesā€ says Larry Lee, head of the Hospital Authority.

The HA has also put aside an extra 5000 beds for COVID patients only. Asia World Expo has opened back up 10 more have been sent there for treatment.

23 year old arrested for trafficking HKers to SEA

Two in their 20s have been arrested for conspiracy to defraud in relation to the rising number of Hong Kongers trafficked into South East Asia by fake job offers (and a couple of fake lovers).

Cheung Man-Wai, 23, is thought to be one of the core members of the crime syndicate, with Shum Mung-Si, 27, thought to be one of the core fake job posters.

Six others have already been arrested in relation to the trafficking. Senior superintendent Tony Ho has confirmed that all of them are part of the same syndicate.

So far, 38 are confirmed to have been trafficked to SEA. 21 are still stuck while 17 have returned to Hong Kong.
