🌊Smuggling the lottery

www.hightide.harbourtimes.com

Good morning.

What would I smuggle if I were so inclined to do such things? I don’t know probably anime figures or something. I missed the orders for a good few limited figures so if anyone does in fact have smuggling capabilities
.it’s not within my journalistic merit but let me know

The fact that this figure is of a writer that destroys the world is not related to the rest of this Tide.

Mark 6 so good it has to be smuggled

Last Thursday (22 Sept), 16,000 Mark Six tickets were smuggled from Hong Kong, along with other goods, into the Mainland and Macau. Two men aged 37 and 59 were arrested when Customs spotted a trading boat off the coast of Tuen Mun.

Yesterday, a married couple of a 48 year old wife and her 49 year old husband were also arrested. Customs said their investigation led them to the woman who purchased the tickets at two Jockey Club betting stations in Tsuen Wan.

After arresting the couple, officers seized a large quantity of bank and sea-shipment documents and HK$280,000 in cash at their residence. It wasn’t their first rodeo, as investigators believe they’ve purchased large quantities of tickets using the same method before.

Customs also froze HK$1 million of suspected crime proceeds in the couple’s bank accounts. Authorities believe a crime syndicate may be behind the operation and have not ruled out further arrests.

The smuggled tickets were worth in total $330,000 and were confirmed on Wednesday to have won $70,000 - if someone had actually bought the ticket.

Ted Hui in prison but he’s not able to go to prison

Ex-lawmaker and activist Ted Hui has been sentenced to 3.5 years in absentia. In absentia is Latin for ‘in absence’. Ted Hui had to be tried and charged in absence because he’s literally not in Hong Kong, having gone into exile in 2020.

Arrested for 2019 protest related charges, he was given bail to travel to Denmark for a climate change conference. But it was later found that the conference was fake. Hui, along with several Danish politicians, forged official documents that let him leave Hong Kong. He then travelled to the UK, and then relocated to Australia where he currently resides in exile.

“The deception was carefully orchestrated by the Respondent with the consequences that public confidence in the administration of justice had been greatly undermined”, judge Justice Andrew Chan wrote in his ruling.

Chan also demanded Hui pay court fees. Although, since Hui’s bank is also in absentia, it’s unclear if Hui will willingly pay.
