Good morning,
For the second year running, the Oscars did not show in China or HK. Unlike last year, I don’t think anyone expected it to be shown. Hollywood Reporter couldn’t get an explanation from TVB. I for one totally forgot it was happening. I stopped following every since Les Mis won best soundtrack that one year - that’s cheating.
Anyway. Good opportunity to update our memes.
We do not in anyway condone physical violence, even in ‘the name of love’ - get help, there’s always a better way. There’s just so much to unpack here and High Tide is not the platform for it … But we do condone memes.

New Court for Old Protests
The District Court, currently located in Wanchai Tower, could move to Causeway Bay in 2027 as part of a HK$5.8bil court complex. The new complex will also be home to the Lands Tribunal and Family Courts.
The move, first mulled in 2017 during CE Carrie Lam’s early tenure was revived last year, and will be brought back to Legco this year. The Caroline Hill site formerly held the PCCW Recreation Club, Post Office Recreation Club and the EMSD headquarters. All were closed in 2017 (some were demolished but a whole bunch of stuff still there) to free up land for development which kinda never happened.
The Judiciary and Bar Association have been supportive of the move, citing in part the massive increase of cases since the 2019 protests which still haven’t all been heard.
A statement from the judiciary read:
“By end 2021, around 300 criminal cases were received by the District Court, with about 200 cases yet to be disposed of. Many of them involve ten or more defendants and voluminous evidence, hence entailing long trials with some cases lasting over 20 to 30 days.”

In today’s COVID press conference (watch Tripperhead’s clip above), Dr. Chuang was asked about CT cutoffs for arrivals. Yesterday, Dr. Au had said ‘positive means positive’, there are no cutoffs.
However, hospitals in HK consider a CT of 30 to be healthy enough for discharge.
SCMP pushed the question further and was told…it depends on the labs that the person tested at before hopping on a flight to HK. This kinda matters because it means someone could be considered negative when getting on a flight, then being considered positive when arriving in HK.
Expect this, of course, to be ‘clarified’ and ‘streamlined’ within the week.
Arrested for shitposting
A woman living in Sheung Shui was arrested yesterday for putting her shit - like literally poop - on the walls of a makeshift COVID hospital at Lok Ma Chau. This is the second time poop has been found at COVID facilities with a man shitposting at Queen’s Hill Estate being the first.
Police warn that convictions are 10 years max.
Yes Russia Extradition
Legco is set to debate a ‘mutual legal assistance agreement’ between Hong Kong and the Kremlin later this year.
The agreement, which was signed by Security Chief Chris Tang and Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko will see HK and Russia cooperate on cross border crime, including searches, intelligence sharing, and in some cases extradition.
Similar legal pacts between HK and Australia, Canada and the UK were halted last year at Beijing’s request, citing double standards when the Western countries criticised the HK NSL.
