Good morning,
Harry Harrison, who did our Christmas Card - among many other things - has given me a review. I showed up on Lamma Island for the Yardley Craft Beer Crawl a few nights ago and decided to say hi to an old subscriber since I was there anyway.
My heavyweight abilities may be more of a cry for help than anything else - but thanks.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to everyone!
~ Cyril

More June 4th commemoration art removed
Following the government’s more-or-less but highly pubiced yet suddeny removal of the Tower of Shame at HKU, two more well known piece of artwork commemorating th June 4th massacre at Tiananmen Square have been removed
The Goddess of Libersty, an identical copy of a similar statue that was brought with the students to Beijing at 1984 itself, has been removed in the dead of the light.
A massive relief showing protestors, bystanders and tanks that allegedly drove into the square in 1984 has now been removed.
The relief, although not as arguably as well known as the Pillar of Shame in HKU or the Goddess of Liberty at CUHK, was actually by the same artist as the latter (you may in fact recognize the statue in the middle of the relief!).
Prior to finding a permenant home in Lingnam, it was on display along with the Goddess in Causeway Bay.
Artists of both the Pillar of Shame and Goddess of Liberty have or will be seeking legal support to challenge local authorities on handling their art without their permission. Pillar of Shame artist Jens Galschiøt has been particularly vocal, having been asking for the right to remove the sculpture by himself and a team of professionals for several weeks but not receiving an answer from HKU. Recently HKU said that they were not sure who the statue legally belonged to.

Extra checks on helpers during holiday season
The government has announced extra patroling of popular hang out spots for domestic helpers over the Christmas and New Year holiday season including Christmas Day (today), and NYE/New Year’s day.
How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree
As per previous years, the EPD is collecting all natural Christmas trees under a third party contractor. Expansion of EPD recycling facilities over the previous year, however, has meant much better coverage for when you need to tear down that tree that, let’s be honest, you didn’t want to buy anyway. Hong Kong isn’t a cold place.
Wood from the trees will be used for scraps and new upcycled furniture. The collection period is early Jan from 2 Jan to 5 Jan….I’ll remind you
