đŸșLoTW: Luigi Coradduzza - Beer jurisdiction with a mission

Buon Giorno,

I’m Luigi, a Sardinian in Hong Kong, and a beer connoisseur.

I’m a recognised BJCP judge and I’ve written beer reviews since 2015. I try to help the local craft beer industry grow by introducing it to newcomers and creating buzz about new beer launches and other events.

But the main point is that I enjoy craft beers and its diversity.

NO! Beer isn't the cheap cousin of wine, it can be even more complex (and expensive). It deserves better recognition, and this is my mission!

If you want to find out more about craft beers, or see how a professional drinker tastes the different flavours in beer, follow me @luigi_drinks (and if you are already a beer geek, follow my Untappd: colui72)

Beery important news:

  • Large groups of expats spotted drinking on Sai Street in Sheung Wan without masks

Image: DimSumDaily

I’m not advocating for people to gather in large groups especially during COVID restrictions, but this piece of news is important because the title symbolises how biased information is in our city. Focusing on the race of the drinkers shows how false and divisive the media can be.

The news was false, it was mixed groups, not “expats”
I could see it in person

The Truth about BrewDog

This was a big news in the past weeks about the "punks" of Brewdog.

It exposed sexism and doubtful conduct in their work environment and a lot of lies ... to make it simple.

BBC’s in depth documentary on it is free to view on BBC iPlayer the next 12 months.

Second Draft Final Sunday Brunch and Grand Closing Party

Not really an event, but another victim of these restrictions and landlords is the popular Second Draft in Tai Hand.

Their closing was so big and shocking, it was covered in SCMP and Tatler.

It's closing its doors on 11 Feb with a few events leading up to it. This Sunday 6 Feb they are having their final Sunday Brunch featuring Smokin Kok’s smoked meats before a final party on 11 Feb during operating hours.

Go and say goodbye!

New release: That Beer Thing

We have recently formed a group of so-called KOL, we've named each other That Beer Thing, which it's just now starting to move take its first steps.

Goal is to create buzz on media, encourage people to get closer to craft beer, and become recognised as a group to further grow with our own events in the future... and maybe, why not, brewery travelling when this madness is over?

We’re planning on having our first livestream on 9 Feb where we’ll have a tasting beer battle between Range (imported by Beerholics) and Equilibrium (imported by HK Craft Beer Co).

Both breweries are high quality, big players in the craft beer scene.

Follow my instagram for more details, we will have a livestream link posted on the day!
