Inspector accused of stealing two cans of abalone, HA manager might have stolen a chicken
Good morning,
I had to double take when I was researching for Tide today - what exactly were people stealing? Why is there so much petty crime news today? And why is it all government people doing it?
I’m sure at least one person will email me a conspiracy theory-esque answer for this. My answer is that God is into aburdism and dark, dry humour.

For some reason, there’s a load of weird theft cases yesterday. Here are two highlights (the rest may come tomorrow…):
Vivien Chuang (48), the HA's chief manager for infection, emergency and contingency, and Chiu Ming-Yu (47), specialist in ortopedics and trauatol were jointly accused of stealing from the Whampoa branch of AEON.
The two allegedly stole a watermelon, a not-water-melon, two packs of puddings, two boxes of blueberries, three plates of sashimi and sushi, and a frozen chicken worth HK$1,632.8 in April.
Chuang and Chiu plead innocent, and their case will rest on the instructions at AEON being unclear, leading to them only scanning and paying for certain items at the self-checkout. They will also be examined on their character.
VISIBLE CONFUSION
As a frequent AEON shopper, I have to say that the self-checkouts are indeed very annoying. But last I checked, they did actually ask me to pay for everything. I could, however, be mistaken ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Inspector Wong King-Shou walked free after judge Jason Wan could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that Wong stole literally two cans of abalone which belonged to the police force.
In Oct 2020, Wong was accused of taking two cans of abalone from the police headquarters in Admiralty. Allegedly, 50 cans had been given to the police force by citizens. A sargeant surnamed Choi received the cans, then instructed a constable to keep 9 cans on a shelf. The other 41 cans were then distributed to other police members in the office.
Wong’s group was given 5 cans, but there were complaints that the cans were not split equally between groups. Wong then went to get two more cans and turned the camera in the room away while he allegedly did the dirty deed. Judge Wan said Wong acted suspiciously, but could not prove he stole intended to steal the cans as two cans then appeared on the table of a female inspector.

This comes as the DH decided that it is safe to get both jabs at the same time.

Prince Edward
The LegCo Panel on Welfare Services chaired by Ben Chan, visited the Children’s Residential Home (CRH) in Prince Edward to see how their progress was after being given a list of 30 recommendations for change.
Panel members first head talks from the heads of the CRH and the CRH reform project followed by an inspection of facilities.
