🌊HK Film Festival in UK Begins
President Xi called President Biden: sth sth diplomacy on Ukraine
Good morning,
Jasmine put out a meme yesterday which is normally my thing, so I’m also turning the tables (wow) and giving you guys photographs which is her thing - she’s a photojournalist. I make puns and memes (the dignified technical term is shitposter but that’s also an incredibly informal term so you’ll never see it on Tide again).

The Wanch is back
Special free news
In case you missed it, we did an article with John Prymmer, owner of The Wanch, earlier in the week. Got a message earlier from Howard McKay, one of the original owners, about some interesting history too. Will be updating the article but for now - The Wanch is reopening in April next to Amazonia.
There will still be weird tram seats, but you can’t sit on them.
COVID in HK

Coronavirus in Hong Kong
New cases:Â 16,583 (new low!)
Total cases: 1,033,541
New deaths: 249 (67 backlog)
Total deaths: 5,650
Extra test for Mainland travel
Apart from just holding a negative test 48 hours before traveling, HK → Mainland travelers will now need to do a test at the border as well. The PCR test is free and will take 1-2 hours.
This is currently only for land travel but may be extended to air travel to the Mainland as well.
Fifth Wave Tetering; herd immunity on the horizon but stay vigilant
Hong Kong tallied 16,583 cases today - a new low which for once is a good thing.
Professor. Ivan Hung said yesterday that HK is reaching herd immunity, and if vax rates can reach 90%, we could start to maybe consider relaxing social distancing pretty please with cherries on top.
Hung said relaxations would likely begin with evening dining services, open air activities, then eventually opening back up for international travel. Negative travelers will be allowed to enter quarantine-free while positive travelers will have quarantine at home for 7 days.
Hong Kong Film Festival in the UK begins
The festival, organised by the Hong Kong Umbrella Community, a community founded by self-exiled lawmaker Nathan Law will show films banned on grounds of subversion such as award winning documentary ‘Revolution of Our Times’ by Kiwi Chow, ‘Inside the Red Brick Wall’, by the anonymous Hong Kong Filmmakers Collective, and ‘May You Stay Forever Young’ by Rex Ren and Sam Lam a youth drama set during the 2019 protests.
Apparently ticket bookings crashed the booking sites, but also last night I tried to search for something on HM’s Land Registry and I think I crashed the site by typing in my email (can someone over there like fix the internet?)

HKU COVID and Mental Health Survey
Wanna become a statistic? I sure do! HKU is running a voluntary online mental health survey till April, trying to find if there is any (yes) relationship between COVID and HK’s mental health problems.
