What you’ll be doing

  • Publishing newsletters several times a week to our daily subscribers.

  • Capturing the light and witty tone of our daily newsletters through engaging writing.

  • Publishing short and long-form articles on current affairs in Hong Kong, written in Harbour Times' editorial tone.

  • Reporting directly to the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor-in-Chief, maintaining communication on any relevant updates and/or responsibilities.

What you have

  • Ability to write the news in an engaging and informative manner.

  • Ability to copyedit with attention to detail in an efficient manner.

What you get

  • Experience with a recognised digital news publication in Hong Kong.

  • The chance to take part in collaborations with our media partners.

  • The opportunity to attend networking events and meetings.

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Dates: The duration of summer 2022 with flexibility for dates.

What current and past interns have to say

"At Harbour Times, I was able to elevate my writing skills while learning how to produce quality journalistic content through both in-depth analytical articles and casual, fun daily newsletters. The variety of content I was able to cover during my internship allowed me to further understand the role media plays in Hong Kong’s rapidly changing society, too."

— Carlos Escueta, Student at City University of Hong Kong

“It’s been a pleasure working with the Harbour Times staff and I’ve honestly learned a lot about journalistic writing and about HK (for the latter, much of it about the escapades of John Lee- but…what’s not to like?).”

— Charlotte Ip, Student at Hong Kong International School

Reporting, researching and condensing local developments into memes for Harbour Times was one of the highlights of my year. A really fulfilling experience and it was my genuine pleasure to work with such an inspiring team!

— Kyna Lee, Student at McGill University

How to apply

  • E-mail editor@harbourtimes.com with your CV and a writing sample of a story (no more than 250 words) that would appear in our newsletter. For an example please refer to past editions of our newsletters (see: "Hold Your Breath: COLLAR’s Debut" below)
