🌊DSE graduates chase their dreams (which are mostly Med)

Good morning,

The book fair began yesterday - who went? I’d have gone to say hi if I were in town (I’ll be back out and about soon).

There’s a lot going on at the fair including all our CG friends having booths. Go say hi, let me know when you’ve said hi.

That’s also a call-to-action (as the SEO gods told me) to check out our events down below.

Is there a doctor in the house?

Congratulations to all DSE candidates! Whatever you ended up getting, your hard work has paid off and we at HT hope you get into the University of your dreams.

That’s also, coincidentally, what Home and Youth Affairs Minister Alice Mak is telling new high school grads:

Hong Kong’s young people are very confident. They are very capable of themselves. I don’t think they choose to lie flat. But of course, maybe they will feel that they don’t have the ways to achieve their goals and targets […] What [the HKSAR and Central governments] are trying to do is to empower them, so that they find different ways to achieve their goals and objectivesā€

As for the students themselves, 6 out of the 8 top 5** scorers are hoping to study medicine at University.

Images mostly via The Standard except for the one super scorer from Pui Ching Memorial College - can’t find a single image of her

One student, Henry, from Ying Wa College who got 5** in four subjects and 5* in three is also studying medicine saying

Medicine has always been my dream […] Especially when undergoing Covid, I feel the Hong Kong medical system needs the new generation and I think studying medicine is my way of devoting myself to society

Meanwhile the HKEAA said that competition for Universities is less strict this year due to a drop in university applications. Around 42% of all applicants will be reaching their requirements.

  • New deaths: 1 (which was a suicide from a prisoner with COVID)

Omicron? Home you go!

Starting yesterday, patients who have the new Omicron strains (BA2.12.1, BA4 or BA5) will be allowed to home quarantine, subject to standard requirements such as having your own toilet.

Dr. Chuang said that this was because data has now shown the other strains are no more dangerous than the original.

Carrie’s $22mil retirement office

Carrie Lam is getting a spanking new office in Pacific Place One as part of her retirement package. The 2,874sqft office is reportedly going to cost $22mil over three years - rent of $377,000p/month (that’s $4.5mil a year) and a further $8.7mil in renovation and furniture costs.

Who’s paying for it? Y’all taxpayers of course!

It’s standard procedure for ex-CEs to get offices. Tung Chee Hwa, Donald Tsang and C.Y Leung all have offices on the Mid-Levels at 28 Kennedy Road in a large colonial mansion, but the Administrative Wing said that the building can only hold three offices and so a new one had to be found for Carrie Lam.
