🌎Changing The World One Student At A Time - LoTW Reese Wong
Leader of the Week | Reese Wong - Founder of ISSIA; young, global changemaker
My name is Reese, I am a 19-year-old changemaker, speaker and community-builder passionate about leveraging the power of business in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
I founded ISSIA HK , a youth-led nonprofit based here in Hong Kong that champions global citizenship education, empowering young changemakers through peer-to-peer and project-based learning. We are a go-to hub for all things global issues, having involved 300+ volunteers across 80+ schools.
As part of my gap year, I have been working at the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and also consult for Ashoka, a global organization that pioneered social entrepreneurship and now aims to build a world where 'everyone is a changemaker'.
I will be starting my studies at the London School of Economics (LSE) this September.
Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn!

Men’s mental health - the silent crisis
Men's mental health has been referred to as a "silent crisis". Men can sometimes project a sense of ‘invincibility’ e.g. I'm fine, and may consider emotional disclosure as a sign of weakness. Showing vulnerability, like any skill, takes practice. The article explains some actionable insights from our panelists.
Here’s an article covering a recent event on Men's Mental Health I put together with the team at AmCham HK and City Mental Health Alliance Hong Kong.
I've always been interested in exploring the future of education and new ways to advance peer-to-peer and project-based learning. I'm currently looking into the possibilities of incorporating virtual reality (VR) in experiential education.
Companies are increasingly understanding the importance of sustainability and ESG, but there still seems to be an intention-action gap. According to the report, “Closing the Green Gap,” by Oxford Economics and SAP, some barriers include communication breakdowns, ineffective use of data and siloed technologies.

Global Businesses for Globally minded people
The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is one of the largest American Chambers outside the US, the largest international chamber in Hong Kong and one of the most dynamic and influential international business organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.
We are a great community for young professionals and senior executives alike to network across our industry committees, social events and diverse programming. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in learning more. At the chamber, I advance our community-building efforts through account and events management, including coordinating our social impact programming.
Time Auction is a charity that advocates volunteerism. They encourage volunteering with inspiring experiences, while connecting skilled-volunteers with NGOs. For example, I recently had the great opportunity to meet Annie Chen of RS Group, where she shared some insights on impact investing and broader ESG trends in Asia.
And a book recommendation….
I've been reading 'The New Reason to Work: How to Build a Career That Will Change the World' by Roshan Paul and Ilaina Rabbat as I further explore careers in the diverse world of social impact.
