Pro-establishment lawmakers capture 89 out of 90 LegCo Seats
Pro-establishment lawmakers have won 89 out of 90 LegCo seats in Hong Kongâs first patriot-only elections. The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong won the most seats (16) while the Federation of Trade Unions was the second largest party with eight seats followed by the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong with seven. The elections saw a record-low voter turnout fo only 30.2%.
On Monday morning, foreign ministers of the UK, US, Australia, Canada and NZ released a joint statement condemning Hong Kongâs new electoral rules. Beijing, on the other hand, claims that the recent elections have shown how Hong Kongâs âimprovedâ electoral system has provided âadvantageous conditionsâ for the ultimate goal of implementing universal suffrage.

Carrie Lam set to fly to Beijing for annual duty visit
Chief Executive Carrie Lam is flying to Beijing for an annual duty visit. The CE denied claims that her visit would concern her possible re-election bid, instead telling journalists that her discussions with state leaders would focus on Hong Kongâs further integration with mainland China and reopening the border for quarantine-free travel.
Many have speculated that Beijing will instruct Lam not to run for a second term. Potential alternative candidates touted by the media include Chief Secretary John Lee Ka-chiu and former WHO director general Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun.

âIt's the same venue that big names like Jim Jeffries have performed in and this time I'm using the ticking timebomb that is my receding hairline as a reason to do my solo show so people can at least one day say "I saw him when he was still hairy!"
