🌊 Mainland Elections Livestreamed

www.hightide.harbourtimes.com

Good morning,

Believe it or not, we the ever tiny Harbour Times, was invited to the BEC Christmas Cocktail reception (applause). Apparently we do great sustainability coverage (more applause) which is good because sustainbility is actually a really important aspect of modern life that everyone really should be working towards bettering.

That’s not just me pretending to suck up to partners - I was bullied for being a ‘tree hugger’ all through primary and secondary school. Climate change is real. Let’s get to fixing it… or do our best anyway.

Anyway. I was really fixated on the toilet at the BEC which only uses 1.5L per flush, sucks the water out like an airplane toilet and apparently ‘saves the world’.

The BEC people are probably reading this and expecting better coverage of yesterday’s reception, but while it was great - this was really honestly too cool to leave out.

🌊 Fire at the World Trade Centre
Good morning, Sze Yu’s got his end of term exams this week (the guy goes to Berkley, he’s like super smart and all that) so I’m covering. Let’s all wish him good luck! Also if you’ve not already read it - I finally (after lots of personal chaos, followed by the site literally locking us out for a week) got our…

  • WTC Fire Updates:

Four are still hospitalized from the World Trade Centre fire with one of them having been in urgent care since yesterday.

The WTC reopened today to workers of the building. The mall and restaurant areas for the public remain closed. Staff say that the smell of smoke is still present, but there is no danger.

Fire Services still investigating exact cause.

  • Two arrested for anti-election incitement

A 36 year old salesman and a 65 year old office assistant have been charged with incitement against voting/blank votes. They are the first people to be charged with the crime and have been requested to appear before Kwun Tong court next Tuesday.

8 others have been arrested for the crime.

Yau Ma Tei Lockdown over Omicron

A Cathay Pacific crew member living in Yau Ma Tei has been diagnosed with the N501Y strain and T478K mutation - both of which are possible signs of Omicron. This sparked the government to order a lockdown of their building in Yau Ma Tei.

The crew member in question has largely stayed indoors except to get groceries and to get tested at a mobile station.

Results are pending. Cargo crew are currently exempt from mandatory quarantine.

Siobhan breaks world record!

Hong Kong swimmer Siobhan Haughey broke the world record for women’s 200m freestyle yesterday.

At 1min 50.31 seconds, she scraped by the previous record of 1min 50.43 set by Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström.

It’s time to learn how to say her name. She’s a world record holder now.
There’s no ‘b’ in Siobhan.
