🌊 LoTW: Chill and Cyberpunk Neon Art
Leader of the Week | Sharmaine Kwan predicts a glowing future
Hello,
My name is Sharmaine Kwan and I am an artist from Hong Kong. I use a range of both traditional and digital media in my artwork such as neon lights, painting, new media art, installation art, and sculpturing. I’m interested in urban environments, the city and its culture, as well as the future.
My work has been exhibited worldwide in different locations such as London, Moscow, Portugal, South Korea, Macedonia, Beijing, Poland, and Hong Kong, and I’ve collaborated with different international brands, events and organisations and do various art commissions.
If you would like to see some of my artworks please visit my website or follow me on instagram! Website: Instagram: www.instagram.com/sharmainekwan_art
Check out Artlane in Sai Ying Pun!
ARTLANE is a collection of 26 murals by 17 artists (including myself) directly connected to Sai Ying Pun MTR and part of Henderson Land’s new developments in the area.
Visit in the evening to find my glowing neon installation ‘Hi-light Alley’!
What do think about the future of NFTs?
Many traditional art investors have moved away from buying physical art pieces to buying NFTs which is a type of digital currency used to represent photos, videos and so on. They can cost hundreds of thousands! It’s attracted celebrities like Jay-Z and even Christie’s has started selling them!
Have you visited the State Theatre before? Wonder how it will look when it reopens in 2026!
The cinema was originally built in the 1950s but has been partially derelict for a number of years. New World Development has recently taken over redevelopment under leadership of Adrien Cheng, most famous for his combining Art and development through his K11 malls.
I’ve got a few exhibitions on right now!
Last few days to visit 'The Sparkle: Not alive yet bright', an art exhibition about robots and creativity!
World-famous robot Sophia will also be making a special appearance this weekend at The Catalyst in Sheung Wan where she will be reciting poems and doing a special water calligraphy performance!
Editor’s note: Also check out Harbour Time’s coverage of the exhibition here
Haven't got enough of the Olympics?
Visit the 'Sports in Hong Kong Art' exhibition at the Sun Museum in Kwun Tong to see art inspired by different types of sports!
My works on martial arts are also currently being showcased there!
The Future is My Thing
Mark your calendars for Art Next Expo 2021 at Lanson Place, Causeway Bay coming this October! I’ll be showing some artworks there!
Coming soon! Digital Art Fair Asia 2021 in Central, Hong Kong!
