🌊 Leung S***

Good morning.

Did you know that there’s a new game out called Stray that takes place in a post-apocalyptic city that is inspired by (do not quote me on this) Hong Kong, where you literally play as a cat who roams the city and can cuddle with the robot residents??? If that doesn’t sell it to you, I don’t know what will.

Pranking CY Leung (gone wrong)

Crime

Joking Just Kidding GIF
Defending himself in court like

Local prankster and former HK Express employee Lai Siu-wang has pleaded guilty to criminal damage for altering the name of former Chief Executive CY Leung’s son to Leung S*** and charging him for 24 inflight meals and five extra baggage spots. The name change and HK$3,375 in extra services (none of which Leung asked for) were part of a “funny prank”. Arguably the joke is on Lai, as he is now in court and dealing with the consequences of messing with CY Leung’s son.

Other crime stories

  • A man who was charged with rioting during the 2019 protests’ Yuen Long MTR Station incident was granted bail.

  • Two people (one ex-student leader and a welfare worker) were charged with inciting people to cast blank votes in the 2021 legislative Council elections. How did they do this you ask? By allegedly sharing a social media post from self-exiled former LegCo member Ted Hui that called on people to fill in blank votes for the election.

  • A banned chemical preservative (sulphur dioxide) was found in a beef sample coming from a local butcher’s stall. The butcher may be given a HK$50,000 fine and a jail sentence for using the preservative, something he has gotten into trouble for previously in 2019.

HK$5 billion tech fund coming soon

Tech

Hong Kong’s Finance Secretary Paul Chan has announced that the city will be launching a HK$5 billion fund for local tech companies to reach their full unicorn potential. This Strategic Tech Fund will also be used to attract foreign start-ups to the city.

To learn more about start-up unicorns, I recommend HT columnist Dr Winnie Tang’s article “Maintaining a unicorn: how to not crash and burn your startup”:
