Hong Kong’s ESG bond issuance quadruples to almost US$35 billion

SCMP reports that as many as 90 ESG bonds were issued this year, raising a combined HK$270 billion, equivalent to four times what was sold last year. ESG bonds area type of debt instrument in which an issuer has identified certain environmental, social, or governance criteria for the use of the bond proceeds.

“HKEX has turned climate risk into opportunities by providing a fundraising platform for projects related to environmental protection, substantiality and diversity,”

— Nicolas Aguzin, CEO of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange

Coronavirus in Hong Kong

  • New cases: 5 (imported)

Maldives, Senegal and Tunisia will be specified as Group A places from December 9

Non-Hong Kong residents who have stayed in such places within 21 days will not be allowed to enter the city. The Hong Kong government made the decision after Omicron cases were detected in these countries.

Wall Street Journal threatened by Hong Kong gov. over ‘incitement‘

Erick Tsang, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, has threatened the Wall Street Journal over the alleged ‘incitement‘ it made in an editorial published earlier this month. The editorial in question—titled “Hong Kong Says Vote—or Else”—contained “baseless assumptions,” Tsang wrote.

Tsang argued that, contrary to what was written in the article, last year’s legislative race was postponed due to Covid-19, not because democrats swept the polls during the 2019 district elections. Tsang also hit back over the article’s claims that Hongkongers “risk harsh penalties if they protest in public,” instead citing that Hongkongers’ rights are guaranteed in the security law and Basic Law.

“Please be advised that inciting another person not to vote, or to cast invalid vote, by activity in public during election period is an offence
irrespective whether the incitement is made in Hong Kongor abroad. We reserve the right to take necessary action.“

— Erick Tsang, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs

“It's the same venue that big names like Jim Jeffries have performed in and this time I'm using the ticking timebomb that is my receding hairline as a reason to do my solo show so people can at least one day say "I saw him when he was still hairy!"
