Billowing clouds of smoke were visible from a busy expressway early yesterday morning as more than 250 firefighters were deployed to put out a massive fire at Hoi Kok Street near a construction site in Tsuen Wan. At least two workers were left injured after trying to escape the blaze.

The fire first broke out on Thursday morning at 6:38 a.m before being upgraded to a No. 3 alarm at 6:50 a.m. Firefighters put it out by around 11:00 a.m.

While no hazardous items were found in the building where the fire reportedly started, the cause of the blaze remains under investigation by authorities.

HK will continue to ā€˜guard against’ imported COVID-19 cases: CE

COVID-19

In preparation for (yet another) attempt to re-open the border with the mainland, Chief Executive Carrie Lam yesterday said that Hong Kong will maintain measures that ā€˜guard against’ all imported COVID-19 cases while also avoiding an increase in local transmission.

Lam noted that although the city’s daily COVID-19 caseload has declined significantly over the past month, the public must still ā€˜remain vigilant’ and ā€˜not let their guard down’. She also added that her administration will continue to implement measures aimed at stabilising the ongoing COVID-19 situation and help facilitate a return to normalcy.

  • Hike up Eagle’s Nest with the Polish Consulate

No alternative text description for this image

Our friends at the Polish Consulate invite all to celebrate Polish national day by hiking up Eagle’s Nest over the long May weekend. The White Eagle is the symbol of Poland, and the first capital of Poland was named Gniezno, ā€˜the Nest’. The 305m peak of Eagle’s Nest also poetically corresponds with the 3rd May Polish National Day.

And an additional message from the Consulate:

As this year’s Polish Heritage Days are organized during the ongoing war in Ukraine – our special invitation goes towards our Ukrainian friends from Hong Kong. Let us all meet in the Eagle’s Nest, wearing clothes in šŸ‡µšŸ‡±Polish (white and red) and/or šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦Ukrainian (blue and yellow) national colours.

Consulate staff will be there from 30 April through to 3 May to guide and support.
