E-Vouchers inaccessible to elderly

The elderly in HK are having a hard time getting the $5,000 e-vouchers as part of the SAR’s anti-epidemic efforts, and the Financial Secretary says sorry.

Many applications that seniors submitted for these vouchers were rejected because of missing or incorrect information, meaning that ā€œcrowdsā€ of people went to service centres to resubmit their applications.

Finance Secretary Paul Chan said that the government will be adding three more centres today to help with the demand for form resubmission or providing supplementary information.

The Asian Migrants Coordinating Body asks the government why it is ā€˜segregating’ domestic workers to two quarantine facilities.

Compulsory COVID tests were ordered for some people living in the Mid-levels and Tai Wai after two asymptomatic residents tested positive after a trip to Kyrgyzstan.

Brazil’s got beef

Brazil has decided to ban beef exports to China, and this could be bad news for Hongkongers who love their beef brisket noodle soup.

Why is this bad for HK? There are worries that this ban would raise prices by ā€œ30 percent or even moreā€.

Media

The latest updates in the world of HK’s media:

  • All of Next Digital’s directors have resigned. Apple Daily, Next’s most popular publication, released its last edition two months ago.

  • City Forum, RTHK’s live debate show, has ended after its summer break, declining to comment on the decision.
