🌊 Free Tide: LGBT content on local show comes under fire from Junius Ho
UK's LOTR scheme closes as families bid farewell to HK
The title of today’s Tide installment rhymes. That’s all I have to say. Good morning.
Junius Ho speaks on LGBTQ+ content (again)
Homosexual relationships featured in local TV show Ossan’s Love are denounced by none other than lawmaker Junius Ho. The series stars Anson Lo and Kenny Wong, airs on ViuTV and has gained a sizeable local fanbase. Why might Ho’s name sound familiar? We last mentioned him in relation to his comments on the Gay Games bringing in “dirty money”.
This time, he states that condoning same-sex romance violates China’s three-child policy and its national security law—neither of which are enforced in HK, though we have our own version of the security law.
Coronavirus in Hong Kong
New cases: 1 (imported, preliminary positive)
Total cases: 11,959 cases so far (65 active cases, 212 total deaths, 11,682 total recovered)
The Center for Health Protection is investigating one imported case of the L452R mutant strain—aside from this, HK recorded no new cases for today. The asymptomatic, fully vaccinated (BioNTech) patient lives in Sheung Wan and travelled to the US for two weeks before returning yesterday.
British National (Overseas) Hongkongers said their goodbyes as the UK’s “Leave Outside the Rules” immigration route closed last night. BNO visa holders can study and find employment in the UK, and this scheme would allow them to settle there after five years of continuous residence.
Among those who bid tearful farewells to the city, a child begged his parents: “I don’t want to go anywhere.”
Now TV media executive Annie Cheung has resigned after contemplating the decision over the past year and describing recent times as a difficult period for local media. Cheung worked at the network for 16 years, and chief anchor Winnie Chui also tendered her resignation.
