Sparrows chirping their way to extinction
The number of Eurasian Tree Sparrows in HK has been cut by a third (305,000 to 211,100) over the course of the last five years.
There have been no specific reasons given for this large drop in the sparrow population, according to the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society.
One tip offered to help protect the bird was to not disturb them if you see them building nests.
So, uh, leave them alone. Pretty solid advice that works across the board for wildlife.
Political
No one from the Democratic Party has offered up an interest in running for Decemberโs Legislative Council elections. In a meeting dedicated to deciding whether the party would be involved in the upcoming polls at all, they soon realised they would need at least one person to run in the first place.
On the topic of elections, newly registered voters fell (paywalled) from 334,000 to 419 from 2020 to 2021.
Also, feel free to commemorate the 4 June/Tiananmen Square Massacre โin accordance with the lawsโ, security secretary Chris Tang said. Each case will be considered individually and there is no explicit guideline on what lawful participation in this event involves.
