Good morning,
My name is Wilson Edwards from Bern, Switzerland and I will be taking over High Tide today. Nice to meet everyone. I’m an expert in microbiology and am very worried about the WHO’s independence.
I am also very knowledgeable about politics and news in Greater China, especially Hong Kong. I wish everyone have a good time reading this.

Fake microbiologist Wilson Edwards scrubbed from Chinese media
In recent weeks, Chinese state media such as China Daily and People’s Daily cited Swiss Biologist Wilson Edwards who spoke out on Facebook about US interference in the WHO.
However, according to a statement from the Swiss Embassy in Beijing, there are no records of Swiss citizen called ‘Wilson Edwards’, nor are there any biology papers under his name.
Soon after, state media quickly deleted all references to Mr Edwards.

Big Will’s Bill and Politics
Couple of changes to various bills, charters etc. All the good politics stuff you guys read us for.
The National Flag and National Anthem Bill will be amended in line with changes to the national law. Of particular interest is that the law will now apply to cyberspace as well. Prosecution time is limited to two years after the crime is committed.
Details of how to adapt certain parts of the law regionally will be held during readings at Legco on 18 Aug.
Tang Wai-Sum, who was sentenced for seven years behind bars for playing an ‘directing role’ in attacking civilians, according to Judge Eddie Yip, will apply for an appeal.
Events / Exhibitions
Soundwaves Interchange
At HT we like to support our local art and music scene. Coming this Friday (oh very soon!) is Soundwaves Interchange at RIO’s backroom in Wanchai. Hosted by DJ FERG and ZACK, this is RIO’s first house and techno event. Sure to be a banger!
Rock at RIO
But if house and techno aren’t you thing, RIO is still hosting their usual live rock music up front.
On tonight will be one of my favourite local bands: The Sleeves.
Price: Free entry for Rock at RIO- note that Soundwave Interchange is in the backroom and has a $100 charge.
China and The World
Beijing and Ottawa are not friends
In the latest deterioration of China-Canada relations, Michael Spavor, detained in 2018 alongside Michael Kovrig, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison on espionage charges. Kovrig’s sentence has not been released.
Lithuania recently allowed Taiwan to open an office in the capital Vilnius under the name Taiwan, which is in violation of the One China Policy. In response Beijing has recalled their envoy, and demanded that Lithuania recall theirs too.
