The return of Article 23? π§
CE Election
It's the return of theβ¦ ah wait, no wait, youβre kiddingβ¦
Article 23, the long-shelved anti-subversion bill that caused widespread backlash in 2003, is poised for (yet another) comeback. It became a subject of focus again after John Lee yesterday said reviving the legislation will be a βtop priorityβ, adding that it would secure a βsafe and stable environmentβ for Hong Kong.
But Lee stressed that while re-introducing the bill is 'high on his listβ, it isnβt his only focus β noting that he would also work to ensure Hong Kong is well-positioned to handle future challenges. Lee is set to submit his candidacy for the election today.
COVID-19 in Hong Kong
New cases:Β 1,433 (735 PCR, 698 RAT)
Total cases: 1,193,023
New deaths: 59 (7 backlog)
Total deaths: 8,886
Other COVID-19 updates:
β’ Health authorities yesterday announced that 3,128 positive cases were uncovered from the three-day voluntary citywide testing drive.
β’ An alternative to PCR tests? Researchers at PolyU have developed a device that detects COVID-19 in people and the environment, with results delivered in just 40 minutes. π²
β’ Health authorities are investigating an outreach vaccination team that mistakenly gave a primary student *checks notes* an empty jab instead of the actual vaccine.
Lockdown updates:
β’ 24 positive cases were detected during compulsory testing exercises for restricted areas in Kwai Chung and Tin Shui Wai.
Allan Au released on bail
