The return of Article 23? 🧐

CE Election

It's the return of the… ah wait, no wait, you’re kidding…

Article 23, the long-shelved anti-subversion bill that caused widespread backlash in 2003, is poised for (yet another) comeback. It became a subject of focus again after John Lee yesterday said reviving the legislation will be a “top priority”, adding that it would secure a “safe and stable environment” for Hong Kong.

This is exactly how I imagine it would go down, tbh

But Lee stressed that while re-introducing the bill is 'high on his list’, it isn’t his only focus – noting that he would also work to ensure Hong Kong is well-positioned to handle future challenges. Lee is set to submit his candidacy for the election today.

Allan Au released on bail

NSL

After being held in custody for nearly 17 hours, veteran journalist Allan Au was released on bail late Monday night following his arrest by national security police for alleged conspiracy to publish seditious material.

The 54-year-old left the Kwai Chung Police Station at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday but would be required to report back to the police in mid-July.
