Carrie Lam to not run for a second term
Politics

Yesterday came the big announcement: Carrie Lam will not be rerunning for her position as Chief Executive in the upcoming election. She said family and personal reasons influenced this decision:
"This is not a question of evaluating my performance or the performance of the Hong Kong SAR Government in this term. This is a question of my personal wish and aspiration, and my personal wish and aspiration is entirely based on my family's consideration.”
— Chief Executive Carrie “family first” Lam
She will end her five-year term on 30 June and her 42 years of public service. Check out Hong Kong Free Press’ article for reactions from different political players to this announcement.
Are you surprised by her decision? Why or why not? Regardless of what you think of her term, all I’m going to say is I’d have made the same decision.
