John Lee, Hong Kong’s incoming Chief Executive (reminder that our countdown clock for his inauguration is here), has received an official letter of appointment from Premier Li Keqiang during Lee’s four day trip to Beijing.
Things that were said during this meeting:
Li: The government will continue to implement One Country, Two Systems and look forward to supporting Lee’s term to help govern efficiently and “consolidate and enhance the city's status as an international financial, trade and transportation centre”.
Lee: "I will live up to the trust placed in me by the central government and the expectations of the people of Hong Kong. At this important moment of the 25th anniversary marking Hong Kong's return to the motherland, I deeply understand that I am shouldering important responsibilities.”

Other COVID-19 news
Frontline property management staff (like cleaning and security staff) who work in seven types of premises will receive a monthly allowance of HK$2,000 for five months.
Travellers coming into HK are required to take another PCR test on the ninth day following their arrival.
Tours to Japan from HK will recommence on 19 June, with groups limited to up to 20 people.
Tomorrow (Wednesday, 1 June), Hong Kong will recognise COVID-19 vaccination records from Vanuatu for arrivals.
