Lee-tter of approval

Politics

Lee’s stamp of approval, so to speak. Source.

John Lee, Hong Kong’s incoming Chief Executive (reminder that our countdown clock for his inauguration is here), has received an official letter of appointment from Premier Li Keqiang during Lee’s four day trip to Beijing.

Things that were said during this meeting:

  • Li: The government will continue to implement One Country, Two Systems and look forward to supporting Lee’s term to help govern efficiently and ā€œconsolidate and enhance the city's status as an international financial, trade and transportation centreā€.

  • Lee: "I will live up to the trust placed in me by the central government and the expectations of the people of Hong Kong. At this important moment of the 25th anniversary marking Hong Kong's return to the motherland, I deeply understand that I am shouldering important responsibilities.ā€
