Good morning,
I'm Carla, I’m one of the Co-Founders of CHOMP, a new food-saving app that just launched in Hong Kong. Our aim is to change the way people feel about food consumption and encourage sustainable living in Hong Kong.
A little bit about me: I’m half Swiss and half Chinese; was born in Hong Kong but grew up all over the world. I’ve lived in 18 cities across 8 countries, and speak 3 languages. My passions include food (obviously), photography and doggos of all shapes and sizes.
Now onto CHOMP! We connect customers to F&B businesses who have food in need of rescuing, providing businesses with the opportunity to sell their surplus as a ‘Mystery Box’ directly on our platform (with a great deal for the customer of course)! The food is made available to customers to purchase on our app – they pick it up directly from the store, saving the package. A win-win solution for customers and businesses.

Bit of older news but definitely still relevant. A mandatory waste-charging scheme that aims to encourage residents to recycle and reuse rather than relying on HK’s exhausted landfills. Woohoo!
Yep, you heard it! Outdoor clothing brands Patagonia and HUB, the first brewery to achieve ‘B Corp’ status, a certification that they balance profits with purpose, have teamed up together to make a beer that boosts carbon capturing.
A great read and great initiative to help promote regenerative farming – apparently “beer is the perfect vehicle” for this.
If you are into booze and beers, this article is for you.

Mystery Box of Businesses To Support
We recently took part in ReThink 2021: Hong Kong’s best attended and most ambitious business event for sustainable development. If you attended, you might have seen us (our colours are hard to miss).
Whilst we were there we met some really cool people and learned about some amazing initiatives and sustainable solutions already in or coming to Hong Kong soon.
Here are 3 startups you should check out!
1. #Tide - They upcycle ocean-bound plastic waste and transform it into premium raw materials which brands can use for their new sustainable products. Check them out, and ask about their beach cleanup activities in Hong Kong!
2. Bamboa - They design and produce attractive, useful home and lifestyle products using sustainable source bamboo. Their products range from bamboo bed sheets to towels, t-shirts, bamboo sunglasses, home-wares, bathroom items and more. Check out their flagship store boutique in PMQ!
3. Island Life - Their mission is to reduce plastic consumption in our lives by offering sustainable alternatives to everyday household goods, such as cleaning products which they sell as dehydrated tablets.
